Douglas J. Halpertundefined

Immigration Attorney

Douglas Halpert has come to the office each day for over 29 years with the same objective: to help people with their immigration cases. His late grandfather arrived at Ellis Island in New York on a ship in the early 1900s, and was so traumatized by the experience that he would not speak about it despite his sunny disposition. This, coupled with his wife’s immigration from Taiwan and the adoption of their daughters from China, has fueled Mr. Halpert’s passion for helping immigrants and the organizations and family members that sponsor them.

Mr. Halpert represents a diverse array of clients including a number of large publicly-traded multinational companies for whom he has helped formulate immigration sponsorship policies and programs. He and his team help organizations attract and retain valued employees from countries around the world. Mr. Halpert has particularly significant experience working with organizations in the fields of logistics and freight forwarding, marketing analytics, management consulting, data science, public health, entertainment, technology, engineering, and manufacturing.

He has experience working on cases involving:

  • B-1 business visitor
  • F-1 student visa - Optional Practical Training and STEM work authorization
  • J-1 exchange visitor, H-1B specialty occupation worker
  • L-1 intracompany transferee
  • E-1 treaty trader
  • E-2 treaty investor
  • E-3 Australian professionals
  • TN Trade NAFTA
  • O-1 extraordinary ability work visa

Mr. Halpert regularly helps his clients prepare for visa applications at U.S. Consulates. He also handles a wide spectrum of permanent residence matters including PERM based and PERM exempt cases.

In addition to large companies, Mr. Halpert also helps non-profit organizations and a broad spectrum of professors, researchers, professionals, and families. Foreign nationals with a pressing need for help through the immigration process – such as engineers, master cheese makers, film directors, actors and crews, research scientists in virtually every field, lovelorn fiancées, professors, publishers, athletes, and applied energy and agricultural experts – have found their counselor in Douglas Halpert.

Mr. Halpert is passionate about helping bring families together through the immigration process by handling K fiancée visas and spousal parent/child and sibling permanent residence cases. Naturalization and derivative citizenship cases are also part of his repertoire. As an adoptive father, Mr. Halpert also has managed to help a number of fellow adoptive parents address complex issues related to the interplay between the immigration and adoption laws.
